Salary Ranges and Progress Projections

One of the myths about taking a Federal Government job is that the employee will never make as much as doing a similar job in the private sector. While there is often some truth to there being a disparity in starting salaries, that gap can quickly close.

The NNSA is implementing a new compensation system early in the 2008 calendar year. Specific provisions of that system are being developed in the fall of 2007. Based on design concepts as they currently exist, each participant’s starting salary will be based on his or her degree, academic standing and occupational field. It is expected that all employees will be eligible for sizeable increases at least annually throughout the 24 month period. Salaries are higher in certain geographic areas, such as Washington D.C.; Livermore, CA; and Pittsburgh, PA.
